I’m starting this week with a bit of a random rant. I can't keep up with the number of mascaras that brands are releasing. I know mascaras are a big money maker for brands and for a lot of people. Once you find the mascara you love, that is the mascara you go back to over and over again, so It’s no surprise that brands will make more and more mascaras until they make THE ONE. The one mascara that becomes an icon in the beauty world. I also understand that there are many types of lashes, and we all need something different. However, looking at some brands, the number of different mascaras or variants of the same mascara (deeper black, waterproof, a different color) seems extensive for one brand. I looked at some popular brands and counted the amount of mascaras they currently offer, not including the travel-size versions of their mascaras.
In my professional opinion, eight mascaras make sense for a brand (not for my kit). If you have a mascara that can lengthen and thicken, add volume, or separate, then a brand will most likely do a waterproof version of an existing mascara or a brown version. However, having 15 mascara options is completely unnecessary, and 29 mascara options are just straight-up stupid.
I tend to overthink things, so as usual, I would love your opinions on this! How many mascaras are enough? Too little or too much?
